Wichita, Kan., Sept. 29, 2014 — Wichita’s next generation of linemen and power plant operators will help ensure this community has the reliable electricity needed to power homes and businesses. But first, they are working on getting another milestone under their belt – high school.

Over the next decade, half of Westar Energy’s employees will be eligible for retirement. The need for highly qualified applicants to fill these vacancies is high. That’s why Westar is reaching out to local high schools through its innovative career night, Electrify Your Future, to share electric utility career opportunities with students and encourage them to pursue these important, well-paying careers in the electric utility industry.

Electrify Your Future will welcome students and their parents from Wichita Public Schools from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Wichita Area Technical College’s NCAT Auditorium, 4004 N. Webb Road, Wichita. Media is invited to attend as Westar introduces these students to the work life of various craft positions, including linemen, substation journeymen, power plant operators, control technicians and more.
