Questions about the Merger
Frequently asked questions about our merger with KCP&L.
I’m a Westar customer. Does anything change for me?
At this time, you won’t see any changes. You may pay your bill, report outages, and reach us in the same way as before. In the future, you’ll see cost efficiencies that will translate to savings and less frequent rate increases.
Where do I report an outage now?
Westar customers should continue to report outages online or at 800-544-4857 (800-LIGHT-KS).
I am on a payment plan. Does this change my payment schedule?
Nothing has changed for your plan. Please continue to pay on the schedule you and your customer care representative set up, in the same manner you were paying previously.
To whom do I make out my checks when paying my bill?
Continue to make your checks payable to Westar Energy.
What is Evergy?
Evergy is the name of the holding company formed by the merger of Great Plains Energy and Westar Energy. Sometime in 2019, we plan to rename KCP&L and Westar to Evergy in all the communities we serve. Before that point, we are still operating as Westar Energy and KCP&L. We will communicate any changes that affect how you interact with us in advance or our name changing.
Do I need to set up my autopay again?
No. Nothing has changed with your current billing preferences.
What number do I need to call for help with my account?
Continue to call 800-383-1183 for account questions.
Will I see savings on my bill because of this merger?
We’re already creating cost efficiencies as a larger company, which means savings for you. We reduced rates in September 2018 and posted an initial bill credit in your December 2018 bill. You’ll also see a bill credit on your February or March 2019 bill (depending on your bill cycle), and annual bill credits will be applied from 2020 – 2022. Click here for more info.
Why We're Merging
As a combined company, we will provide you more benefits than we could if Westar and KCP&L remained separate companies. Learn More
