Green Team projects

The Westar Energy Green Team completes 50 to 70 projects per year on weekends and evenings. The Green Team collaborates with conservation groups, agencies and schools in enhancing and fostering an understanding of the Kansas environment. The following is an overview of the projects we participate in.

Haysville Pavilion

The Haysville Pavilion holds 75-100 people for field days, open houses and other educational events. The center supports the coordination of the Kansas Forest Service's Community Forest Program, which is focused on educating the public and community leaders on the value of healthy trees in our state. Green Team members framed and decked the pavilion from old power poles and donated materials. Learn more at KansasForests.org.

Westar routinely partners with grade-, middle- and high-schoolers to plant vegetation at their school properties. Green Team members share with youths the benefits of trees, proper planting techniques and the importance of planting the right tree in the right place.

Symphony in the Flint Hills

Every summer, the Symphony in the Flint Hills provides an incredible combination of world-class symphony combined with an unmatched prairie setting. The symphony supports music-based education and ecological and cultural significance of the Kansas Flint Hills. Green Team members help set up chairs, tents and hay bails for this spectacular event.
