USD 259 employees job shadow Westar Energy line crew
Externships provide counselors and teachers with glimpse into the electric utility industry, opportunity to relate lessons with utility jobs
WICHITA, Kan., June 26, 2014 – Over the past couple weeks, a group of Wichita USD 259 counselors and teachers has been touring Westar Energy facilities and learning about the jobs and work practices that are associated with the utility industry.
“This externship gives counselors and teachers a better understanding of how different curricula relate to the jobs being performed on a daily basis. They are gaining firsthand knowledge of potential jobs students can pursue during and after high school,” said Scott Hildebrandt, director of division operations.
The final job shadowing opportunity for this group takes place starting at 7:30 a.m., Friday at 1900 E. Central. The participants will shadow a Wichita line crew until noon. Media are invited to attend this tour for pictures. Please call the media line to coordinate a time and location. Jimmy Martinez, regional director of operations, will be available for interviews in the afternoon.
